Scott Calhoun’s Story

What initially drew you to become involved with H&N?

What initially drew me to become involved with Hammer and Nails was this very mission of being the hands and feet of Jesus in a tangible way. The opportunity to meet people where they are, to improve their living conditions, and to share the love of Christ in the process resonated deeply with me. I was moved by the idea that even simple acts of service, like fixing a handrail or painting a house, could have a profound impact on someone’s life, not just physically but spiritually as well. It’s a privilege to be part of a ministry that is committed to transforming lives and communities through the love of Christ.

Can you share a specific project or initiative at H&N that had a significant impact on you?

One area of ministry that Hammer and Nails excels in is the installation of wheelchair ramps. This work is done with the understanding that they are not just providing a physical structure but a gateway to freedom and independence for individuals who have been confined to their homes. The immediate impact of a completed ramp is profound; suddenly, someone who has been isolated for years can now easily leave their home to visit doctors, connect with friends and family, and re-engage with the world around them. This act of service displays the compassion of Christ, who calls us to care for the vulnerable and restore hope where it has been lost. It’s a transformative moment that brings hope and joy, restoring dignity and improving the quality of life for those who have felt trapped by their circumstances.

What inspired you to continue supporting H&N over the years?

Hammer and Nails is unapologetically a Christian ministry because its mission is deeply rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This ministry believes that serving others, especially those who are struggling, is a direct expression of Christ’s love and compassion. The heart of Hammer and Nails is not just about improving homes but about touching lives with the message of hope and love that Jesus brings. By fixing houses, changing lives, and giving hope for tomorrow, this ministry reflects the core teachings of the Gospel.
